Who is the most important person in the world?
How would you answer that question?
Ellie answered it with a confident "Me!"
If you're like me, your initial response might be to think something along the lines of "Wow, that's the opposite of what I would want my child to say." After all, shouldn't we be teaching our kids to be humble, and that they should put others before themselves? Especially if you're a Christian family, I would think that such a response would be against everything you are trying to teach your children.
At least this is how the conversation I had with a colleague of mine went.
As for me, I couldn't be more proud of Ellie's answer. In seeking to understand what she meant, I know that she did not mean to say that she is any more important than the next person. Rather, what she meant to say is that it is important to believe in one's self, and to make your needs a priority.
I do not worry about Ellie treating others with kindness and respect. She does that naturally. And she knows that the best way to love others is to love herself first.
Personally I like the fact that she has such self-confidence. As long as she puts her energy towards making her world a better place, I don't see why she can't be the most important person in it.

About Addie
One of the first school assignments that Addie had in Kindergarten was to decorate a piece of paper.
On one side, photos of the things that mean the most to you. She chose a photo of the family, one of Ellie, one of her two favorite bears (Bussi & Patches) and one of the Eiffel Tower.
On the other side, anything you want your new friends to know about you. The words say "I am a sunflower girl. I have a bear heart and a dragon soul."

You're still the one
We recently had a bunch of lice decide that our girls' hair would make the perfect place to establish a home for themselves and generations to come. We scrubbed our heads with the fancy schmancy shampoo, did a ton of laundry, tossed a bunch of stuffies into the garage and spent the following week nit-picking (literally). Towards the end of the week both girls were desperately missing their favorite stuffies, Bun Bun and Bussi Bear. Even after all this time, they are still so very loved.

Surprise Sleep Over
Throughout life, friends come and go. This can be a tough lesson for any child to learn, and an even tougher lesson for any adult to accept.
That being said, I am trying really hard to make an effort to allow my girls to keep in touch with their best friends, Brynn & Lylah. After all, we've known them for oh so very long!
A month or two ago I surprised the girls with a sleep over. They didn't know it was coming (I suppose that's what a surprise means) and Brynn, Lylah and myself picked up Ellie & Addie from school. Never before have I seen two girls be so excited to see old friends.
Something tells me these four will be special friends for quite some time, even if they don't go to school together anymore.
