Since we weren't sure what this trip would be like, we bought a few games to keep us entertained. Ellie played horseshoes for awhile......but ended up deciding that the poles made better drum sticks than anything else.
Nana expanded on this by going around the campsite with Ellie, seeing how different things sounded different as drums. The tent sounds different than the fireplace, which sounds different than the rocks, which sound different than the picnic table, etc.
Grandpa played with Ellie, tossing the set of balls and beanbags. Ellie got quite good at getting the beanbags into the hole. She was quite the supportive on-looker when it was someone else's turn, saying "Oh, almost, Daddy. Almost." even if the bean-bag ended up nowhere near the hole. "Try again Daddy," not realizing that he was only supposed to have three tries per turn. She seemed to be convinced that with enough encouragement, Daddy could become just as good as she was at getting the bags into the hole.
When it rained, we spent the time inside Nana's RV. Nana and Ellie made lemonade and Ellie drank a ton of it. I think she enjoyed seeing the process go from sour lemons to yummy lemonade and kept asking for more sugar because she knew that was the magic ingredient. On the last day, we rode the Georgetown Loop train. Ellie loved it, but liked the snacks even more. She acted like a pro, nice and relaxed while waiting for the train to move again.
So, our weekend wasn't filled with your typical camping activities, but it was a huge success none-the-less. Ellie is definitely looking forward to doing it again.
