Hide and Seek, Take II

Ellie has improved quite a bit when it comes to playing hide and seek, but there's plenty of room for more growth.

Though she now understands that one person counts to ten and then says "Ready? Come!" and the other person goes to hide.... well just look at Ellie's recent hiding spot and decide for yourself how much more improvement is needed.
Hehehe... You can't see me!

My almost 4 year old suffers the same problem. He is convinced that if he can't see you, then you can't see him. I keep trying to tell him that even with his eyes covered, I can see his head and his hands and his feet, etc. It doesn't help. Similarly, if I cover my eyes, and ask him if he can see me, the answer is "no".

And this is slightly disturbing to me. Because it reminds me of a creature in Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's series: The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Trall. It's a petrifying creature that will eat just about anything. But it's easy to defend against it. You just put a towel over your head. The Bugblatter reasons that if you can't see it, it can't see you.

The disturbing part is that it's described by the book as "the dumbest creature in the known universe". Hence, I have worked *very* hard with all of my children to get them past this stage! My youngest is the most stubborn on this point.

Of course, he's also incredibly bright in other areas. This one just eludes him.

I just realized that there is a possibility that you aren't familiar with the Hitchhiker's series. It's not, by any stretch of the imagination, a serious work. I'd describe it as comedy science fiction.

So my previous post was meant to have a touch of humor to it.

I love your comment!

I loved the Hitchhiker's series and would highly recommend it to anyone. I laugh every time I think about certain specifics, and I'm so glad you reminded me of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Trall!

Oh, god. That's funny stuff.

Let's hope our little ones can surpass the beast's intelligence eventually. Maybe they have support groups for people who suffer from the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Trall Intellect. =)
